Trout fishing on Cumbria’s most famous lake Windermere is always a pleasure. Windermere is England’s largest natural fresh water lake. Set in the beautiful Lake District fells, despite the heavy tourism to Lake Windermere it still stands out as one of the best fishing lakes in England. Unfortunately for us trout anglers the proliferation of coarse fish over the years make Windermere a difficult lake to improve for trout. Windermere was once England’s premier trout fishery but it appears that the famous wild brown trout have been in heavy decline over the past three or four years. Something should be done to redress the natural balance. The good news is that much work is being done and studies are being carried out to improve this dismal situation so lly there is hopefully a light at the end of the tunnel.
