Daddy Longlegs Fly-Trout Flies-Dry Flies

The Daddy Longlegs Fly (or Crane Fly) hatches throughout the trout fishing season but reaches the natural peak of its hatch during late summer when they attract far more attention from trout. By careful observation you will be able to find the best spot where most daddy longlegs flies or crane flies are blown into the water .The daddy longlegs fly is best fished with an overhead cast.

Daddy Longlegs Fly Materials

Hook: 10 - 12 sedge hook , Thread: white , Body: extended deer hair, Legs: knotted pheasant , Wings: honey or dun hackle points ,Hackle: brown cock hackle. Tail:deer hair

Daddy Longlegs Fly Tying Method

Firstly, secure a needle in your vice. Secondly, tie in tails of pheasant tail near the point of the needle with the tail ends pointing towards the eye end of the needle. Thirdly, tie in a single bunch of cut and prepared deer hair directly over the pheasant tails covering them to about half their length with the ends pointing in the same direction as the pheasant tails. Next trim the short ends of the deer hair near to the needle facing the eye end. Now brush the deer hair forward around the body of the needle avoiding taking the tails forward with the hair, as you pull forward make several securing wraps in front of the pheasant tails. Now make several spiral wraps down the length of the deer hair and make a few more securing wraps to make the fly last longer. Next take the thread in crossing spiral wraps towards the tails and tie off to secure the thread. Treat the body with a good fly plasticizer and tie on the body to a hook by the lose ends. Tie in legs, hackle and wings in that order.
