Butcher Fly -Trout Flies-Wet Flies |

The Butcher fly originated in England in the early 1800’s and is credited to Mr. Jewhurst. It was latter popularized by a Mr. Moon, and was at first known as Moon’s Fly. Mr. Moon was a butcher by profession and it was soon became known as the Butcher Fly. Today the Butcher Fly ranks amongst the worlds top 20 most popular and best known trout flies. All later silver-bodied trout flies probably stem from the Butcher Fly pattern. A size 10 or size 12, Butcher Fly makes an excellent attractant for imitating minnows and fry in the river or still water and are especially useful towards the end of the season on reservoirs. The Butcher Fly also makes an excellent point fly for sea trout fishing. Brown trout also love the Butcher Fly. |
