Black Gnat Fly-Trout Flies-Wet Flies |
|
The black gnat fly is an excellent trout fly to use when any small dark or black insects or the real flies are on the water. Clouds of gnats can often be seen hovering over the water and it is inevitable that some of these will fall into the water, thus becoming a food source for the trout. Gnats are a delicacy to all trout species. When using the wet fly version of the black gnat fly I have had more success using a single fly and although I acknowledge that some anglers would not agree, I would reiterate that this has provided far better results for me personally. I find that the black gnat fly can be fished on most days throughout the whole of the trout fishing season. The black gnat fly was traditionally used a dry fly, however today it is also popular as a wet fly. I recommend that both wet fly and dry fly versions of the black gnat fly should form an important part of the trout flies in any serious trout anglers fly box. |
