Black and Peacock Fly -Trout Flies-Wet Flies |
To some extent i think the Black and Peacock fly resembles a water snail in the water. However, the black and peacock fly is also representative of several other aquatic creatures. The black and peacock fly is therefore a very good example of one of those trout flies that does not closely imitate a single natural food source of the trout, but rather, generally represents many different water insects. The strange thing is that trout tend to prefer these type of wet flies of which the Black and Peacock Fly is an absolute classic. |

Black and Peacock Fly Recipe |

First, whip the silk or thread down to the shank of the hook toward the bend, starting at 1/8 th the distance from the eye. Next, tie in three bronze peacock herls. Twist the herls and silk or thread together and bind them around the shank to make quite a fat body. Twisting the herls helps to preserve the body after it has been taken by the trout so that it might be used again. Tie in the black hen hackle. Make 2 to 3 turns. Tie off with whip finish behind the eye. Use clear or black varnish to complete the black and peacock fly. |
